baby got hospitalized last week, October 29, 2011. It started dawn of Friday when baby was awaken by her achy stomach and threw up all her dinner (untouched). It happened thrice but the other two were empty, just bile.
Came Friday morning, she started to have watery bowels. It went on for the whole day with the interval of 30 minutes just before I reached home in the afternoon. I had her stool examined in the hospital. We went for a check up on Saturday. She was quite ill but she was still full of energy. So her pedia told us that Ria has to be admitted at the hospital for rehydration while finding out what’s wrong with her.
We finally got a urine sample after few hours of having an IV. Oh yes, she was on an IV so that she’ll be rehydrated. Just imagine my daughter having that tube following her every movement. Her hand was also covered with a diaper so she’ll not pull the needle. It was agonizing seeing your daughter irritated and suffering because of the IV.
She was really bored seeing only the four corners of her room. Even if she had her toys with her, she was still bored. Well, we can’t do anything but to entertain her.
We stayed at the hospital for two ngihts and two days. (Thank God it was holiday). The diagnosis: UTI and lactose intolerance. So we switched milk to a lactose free one. The next day after she was discharged, her bowels were again loose. So we observed her. We bought cerelac for her (surprisingly, she enjoyed her meals with cerelac).
On Friday, she started to have her normal bowels again. Came Saturday (exactly a week after she was admitted), we got the results of her stool exam, everything’s normal. So her pedia said we will give her lactose free milk for the meantime.
The agony: Seeing your child suffer and your wallet drained 🙂
Although Philhealth was really useful, it doesn’t cover the medicines and lab exams outside the confinement. Probably around 8k cash out. That’s where our funds were drained. But then, I still thank God for making my daughter well.
The lessons: do not give your child pineapple and buko juice with an unwell tummy. It will make things worse. And be ready with the expenses ALWAYS. You’ll never know when you will need money. 🙂
