It was the most stressful part of this pregnancy. It started when we had a 3D4D ultrasound of our baby boy. The sonologist said that I should contact my OB regarding the femur length and amniotic fluid. So I txted my OB and she instructed me to have an ultrasound at St. Luke’s Global.
True enough, the amniotic fluid is slightly elevated. It’s within the high normal limits but the sonologist there said that the femur length was just fine. I consulted my OB regarding the findings and she said I will be monitored every two weeks for my fluid. She also said I should have a glucose tolerance test to check for diabetes. It took me 2 hours to finish my OGTT with four blood extractions and urine catch. Thank goodness the needle was just small that I managed to endure the extraction.
So the OGTT result came out negative. During my next check up, I was again asked to have another ultrasound to monitor the fluid. This time, the sonologist said that baby’s brain fluid was also within the high normal limits. When I went to my OB for the report, she referred me to a high risk pregnancy OB, Dr. Elisa Cornelio. So I have two OB doctors now, one is my main and the other one is for high risk pregnancy.
I went to see Dr. Cornelio for consultation as advised by my OB. When I handed her my ultrasound reports and Dr. Abaya’s referral letter, she checked my baby via her ultrasound unit. She said the fluid inside baby’s brain is just normal. She normally doesn’t mention it to her patients to avoid stress and panic. Although she said it is really elevated, there’s nothing to worry about it. The baby is perfectly fine. She said that her patients with that kind of fluid in brain usually have healthy babies. So me and my husband were able to breathe after that consultation. It took us three weeks, I think, before we were relieved.
About the amniotic fluid, she advised me to shift milk from Anmum to a low fat milk, because Anmum can cause polyhydramnios. But in my case, I have a very mild polyhydramnios. I just need to see her again if I cannot take the weight of my tummy because of the fluid.
Though Dr. Cornelio said the baby’s fine, I am still under monitoring especially that my fluid is slightly elevated. It can cause preterm labor. So I am very careful now so that we can deliver full term. We are still aiming for December 4 but we are praying to reach at least 36 weeks so I can avail the package at St. Luke’s Global.
Preparing for Preterm Delivery
After the first check up with the ultrasound result, I have already accepted the fact that we might have a preterm delivery. So I started to pack things for baby. We went to Monterey to get Ria’s baby clothes that baby can still use. We also bought baby stuff like powder, wipes, etc. Honestly, I am still not prepared but I need to be prepared. I also started teaching my colleagues on what I usually do so anytime I take my maternity leave, I know they can do my responsibilities.
Ria’s love for her brother
At an early age, I can say that Ria is a loving sister. I hope that she will be like that until they grow up. Every night, she’s thanking God for her baby brother and she’s always telling me to be strong once I’m about to deliver.
On her 4th birthday, she received money from Nanay and Tatay and Lolo Boy. We decided to take her to a toy store so she could buy some toys. Here’s the convo that we had:
Joy: bilisan mo kumain dahil bibilhan ka ng toys ngayon
Ria: e dami na ko toys eh
Joy: so ayaw mo na ng toys?
Ria: opo, si baby na lang. Ako mamimili ng toys niya
And true enough, when she saw the section of baby toys, she picked so many toys and said they were for her baby brother. So when it was time to choose among the toys she got, she removed some from her stuff. I asked next to remove some toys for her brother. She said she wanted to give them all to Juan Jaime. I asked her again after few minutes, she didn’t want to remove baby toys from the cart. So I ended up asking her to pick one among the toys she chose to remove because baby’s toys were more than her toys.
Such a sweet and loving ate. 🙂
