FREE Printables for the Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is coming up and I have prepared some printables for your kids (preschooler to early grade schoolers). I hope you enjoy these pages with your kids!

The Chinese New Year, often called the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, is the country’s most celebrated festival. The date fluctuates between the 21st of January and the 20th of February because of the lunar calendar. The highlight of the 15-day celebration is on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in China. During this time, families get together to celebrate the Lunar New Year by exchanging red envelopes containing cash to their children and eating traditional dishes like dumplings and niangao (sticky rice cake). Typical festivities include fireworks and lion dances. Countless countries host massive celebrations for the Chinese New Year, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, all of which are home to sizeable Chinese diasporas.

The coming year is the Year of the Rabbit. This is the reason why the printables are rabbit-inspired. People born in the year of the rabbit are thought to share the rabbit’s sensitivity, calm demeanor, and other positive traits. People have a preconceived notion of them being sophisticated, cultured, and witty.

The lunar rabbit is a symbol of long life and prosperity in Chinese culture. People born in the year of the rabbit are also said to have these attributes because of the animal’s reputation for being docile and calm.

The Chinese zodiac predicts that anyone born in the Year of the Rabbit will have a keen eye for business and a knack for handling finances. They have a great capacity for empathy and listening. They put a premium on family life and are popular among their peers as a result.

May your year be filled with abundance of smiles and laughter

Here is a snapshot of the printables available. There is a coloring page, a maze (help baby Rabbit find his way home), pre-writing exercise (tracing), reading, and tracing of sentence.

I hope that these pages can help you with homeschool activities for the upcoming Chinese New Year!
